Casey Anthony: Was evidence of guilt lacking?

SEBRING - A lack of evidence might explain why a jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of murdering Caylee, her 2-year-old daughter, Assistant State Attorney Steve Houchin and defense attorney Bill Fletcher say.

"What I see in 20/20 hindsight … you had an incredible amount of circumstantial evidence, but when you add it all together, it did not add up to proof beyond a reasonable doubt," Fletcher said Thursday.

On Tuesday, the jury deliberated less than 11 hours before acquitting the 25-year-old Anthony of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter and aggravated child abuse.

The jury found Anthony guilty of four counts of lying to investigators conducting the inquiry into Caylee's June 2008 disappearance. The toddler's body was found in December 2008.

On Thursday, Circuit Court Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four consecutive one-year sentences and fined her $4,000 plus $618 in court costs. Based on credit for time Anthony has already served in jail and her good behavior while incarcerated, Perry said Thursday that Anthony would be released from the Orange County jail on Wednesday.

Houchin and Fletcher said they didn't watch a lot of the trial as it played out on television, but they agree that the prosecution team that included Assistant State Attorneys Jeff Ashton and Linda Drane Burdick, as well as the defense team that included Jose Baez and Dorothy Clay Sims did good work during the proceedings.

"I have no absolutely no doubt they did everything possible with the evidence they had," Houchin said of the prosecution team.

The lack of evidence was an obstacle prosecutors couldn't overcome, Fletcher said.Investigators could not determine how, where Caylee died and there was no physical evidence linking directly to Casey Anthony in the death of his daughter.

"I think the defense was excellent as far as creating a reasonable doubt."

The prosecution, Fletcher added, "has about as good as they could.
