Driving the Lake Michigan Circle Tour on the back of a Harley

For me it's more like: The road is vacation. I find peace on the highway.
Since my ex-hippie neighbor goaded me into buying a Harley-Davidson during the height of my midlife crisis, I took the road on the largest two-wheeler rolling sofa Milwaukee could muster - a metallic blue 2007 Ultra Classic.

Day 1
Technically, there is an official "Circle Tour" itinerary. You can pick it up the East Side neighborhood in Indianapolis Boulevard and head past Horseshoe Casino and the BP storage tanks in Gary, Indiana on Highway 12 that winds through the beautiful Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore eventually.
But Gary - how can I put this well - is a difficult place. I'm not talking about houses plastered, bombed business dreams and failure of the former steel mill boomtown.This section of bumpy, inexplicably flooded pothole infested road is tough on your back - and your bike.
