Project Outline:
The City of Saint Peter has joined the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DoT) and Shafer Construction in the reconstruction of Highway #169 from Jefferson Avenue to Union Street. The project began in June and is scheduled to conclude by Thanksgiving weekend. The closure of the highway and associated detour routes will ensure that Shafer Construction can complete the construction in a timely manner while maintaining a safe work zone.

Traffic will be re-routed differently
several times throughout construction

The highway serves as our “Main Street” and dissects the historic central business district. As traffic volumes, speeds and the size of vehicles has increased over the years, the ability to maintain a functional, attractive downtown has been jeopardized. The reconstruction project is an attempt to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety while remaining sympathetic to the design, architecture and character of the historic downtown. The new traffic control structures, street surface and streetscape will greatly improve the corridor and serve the community for many years.
